Microsoft's Fourth AI Data Center Region in India Goes Live
Microsoft announced that its Central South India cloud region in Hyderabad has officially gone live, becoming the company's fourth cloud region in India.
This region includes three availability zones and supports critical workload tasks, making it Microsoft's largest hyperscale region in India. This move is part of Microsoft's $20.5 billion investment commitment in India, aimed at expanding cloud computing and AI infrastructure, following previously announced phased investments of $3 billion and $17.5 billion. Early users include local businesses such as Adani Group and HDFC Bank.
This is a hyperscale cloud infrastructure expansion event, with funding directed towards local data centers and AI computing power deployment. Microsoft benefits from India's low latency and compliance advantages, providing local businesses with closer AI cloud services, while competitors face pressure on their cloud market share in India.

Microsoft has previously operated cloud regions in Pune, Chennai, and Mumbai, and has increased local nodes through partnerships with Jio. The Hyderabad region, as the largest hyperscale facility, continues its commitment to AI infrastructure in India announced in 2025, bringing total investments to $20.5 billion.
In terms of capital flow, funds are concentrated on building multiple availability zones and sovereign-ready designs to meet local data residency and regulatory requirements. The motivation is to capture the rapidly growing demand for Azure and AI in India while reducing cross-border latency and compliance friction.
This approach is similar to Google and Amazon's concurrent increase in investments in Indian data centers, as global cloud vendors are currently in a phase of large-scale deployment of AI infrastructure in emerging markets.
Essentially, this represents a concentration of capital: hyperscale computing power is being deployed in high-growth markets, with the mechanism localizing global AI training and inference demands to secure enterprise and government clients.
