MetaMask Officially Launches Self-Custody AI Proxy Wallet Agent Wallet

MetaMask has announced the official launch of Agent Wallet, providing traders and developers with a self-custody AI proxy wallet. Users can connect to frameworks such as Claude Code, Codex, and OpenClaw, allowing the proxy to execute on-chain operations within preset rules.

The wallet supports Hyperliquid as well as EVM chains like Robinhood Chain and Monad. The proxy can perform ERC-7821 batch exchanges and one-time transactions without holding on-chain native tokens to pay for gas, as MetaMask can settle network fees from transferred assets. Supported EVM transactions provide pre-execution simulations, threat scanning, and MEV protection, with eligible transactions receiving up to $10,000 in monthly trading protection if losses occur despite passing security checks.

This marks the implementation of self-custody AI proxy infrastructure, with funds and permissions flowing within user-controlled boundaries for automated execution. Traders and developers benefit from autonomous operations within rules and security guarantees, while traditional manual trading models face pressure from enhanced proxy efficiency.

MetaMask previously conducted early access testing for Agent Wallet, maintaining a core design that emphasizes user control over keys and rule boundaries, rather than fully delegating control to the proxy. The official launch continues its decade-long wallet security stack, embedding simulation, scanning, and MEV protection into the execution path.

On the capital path, by abstracting gas and supporting batch transactions, it reduces friction for proxy operations while using trading protection to lower user risk perception. The motivation is to seize the entry point for AI proxy trading infrastructure, binding the proxy framework with on-chain execution under a self-custody model.

Similar products like Coinbase AgentKit are currently transitioning from manual trading to rule-constrained AI proxy trading.

Essentially, this represents a technological substitution: unrestricted wallet access is replaced by permission boundaries and enforced security pipelines, mechanism-wise limiting proxy autonomy within user presets and pre-execution checks, balancing efficiency and security.

  1. The degree of freedom for proxies is determined by rule boundaries.

  2. The value of self-custody lies in the keys always being in the user's hands.

  3. Pre-execution checks are more valuable than post-compensation.
