Google released the image generation and editing model Nano Banana 2.1 on Tuesday. Higgsfield integrated it into their platform on the same day, claiming faster generation, improved image quality, and better control over complex prompts, with output up to 4K.

Google highlighted three main improvements: visual design, mask-based editing, and subject consistency. Mask editing modifies only the marked areas. Subject consistency means that characters or objects retain their original appearance after multiple edits. The developer documentation also noted more accurate text rendering and infographic layout, and fixed stitching artifacts for ultra-wide and ultra-long ratios like 1:4, 4:1, 1:8, and 8:1 at 2K and 4K resolutions.

The specifications follow the fast model tier. The default output is 1K, with options for 2K or 4K, with higher resolutions being slower. It can handle up to 14 reference images at once, with a maximum of 4 for character consistency and 10 for object fidelity. Web search and image search can be enabled for factual grounding, with thinking tiers set to low, default medium, and high. Output formats can be selected as jpg or png on the interface side. It is designed as a high-speed, low-cost counterpart to Nano Banana Pro, with the previous version, Nano Banana 2, released in February.

The price on the developer interface has been halved. The standard 1K image price dropped from $0.067 to $0.0336, and 4K from $0.151 to $0.0756. Google has simultaneously integrated it into the Gemini app, AI Mode in search, Google Ads, AI Studio, Flow, Stitch, and the Gemini enterprise platform.

The internal ratings in the model card are higher than several editing items of the previous generation and Pro, including single character, multiple characters, mask editing, and multi-reference image editing. Limitations are also noted on the card: 1K small text may still be blurry, long paragraph text is unstable, character consistency may not be maintained every time, and mask editing may occasionally miss instructions, with left-right spatial positioning still prone to confusion.

This is a model distribution, not financing. Google sells generation in interfaces and ad spaces, while Higgsfield incorporates the same model into creator workflows for a fee. The event is driven by 2.1 replacing 2. Beneficiaries include those needing bulk image generation, modifications, and advertising materials, as well as Google embedding image generation into search and ads. The pressure is on the previous generation interface still selling 1K images at $0.067, and also on other image models available on Higgsfield during the same week.
