Vercel CEO Guillermo Rauch made a statement: at this rate, AI will bring GTA 7 before GTA 6. This is a comment, not a product release, and no models, demonstrations, or launch dates were provided.

This contrasts with the schedule clearly stated by Rockstar. On November 6, 2025, the company pushed Grand Theft Auto VI from May 2026 to November 19, 2026, apologizing for needing a few extra months to meet player expectations. Previously, it had already been delayed from Fall 2025. The official setting is the fictional state of Leonida and a modern version of Vice City.

Publisher Take-Two reiterated on August 7, 2026, that the November 19 date remains unchanged. CEO Strauss Zelnick also maintained the forecast of net bookings of $8 billion to $8.2 billion for fiscal year 2027, including the release of GTA 6 within this range. On August 27, Rockstar released extended gameplay footage. Pre-orders opened on June 25.

The gap between installments is quite long. The last main entry, GTA 5, was released in 2013, making it about 13 years until the scheduled date. The BBC noted at the time that it remains one of the best-selling games in history, with its online mode keeping players engaged. Rauch's statement compares this wait to the rapid iteration of generative tools.

He did not claim that AI has produced a complete open-world game, nor did he suggest that Rockstar would change the release date using generative models. The information in the statement contrasts: on one side, two delays still locked in a polished standard, and on the other, model versions changing weekly. Some responses directly remarked that this joke is back, indicating that similar comparisons have been repeated in public.

This is neither procurement nor financing. The speaker is Rauch, selling a development platform, while Rockstar and Take-Two's schedule serves as a comparison. The event is driven by the approaching November 19 date, not new game orders. The beneficiaries are AI tools that use waiting as a topic for narrative. The pressure is on AAA studios that must deliver based on completion rather than demonstration frequency, as well as the publisher betting $8 billion to $8.2 billion in net bookings on the same day.
