Venture capital firm Lightspeed has appointed Adil Haque as Partner and Head of Capital Partnerships, responsible for leading the connection with institutional investors, understanding their priorities, and conveying the judgments of fund investors to them.

Lightspeed stated that the surge in artificial intelligence is increasing the importance of venture capital to institutional investors. AI companies can reshape industries before going public, thereby impacting other businesses within an institution's entire portfolio. Working with founders allows their investors to see how AI is being adopted and how business models are changing; institutions funding Lightspeed should be able to leverage this perspective. Further details on the appointment point to the Wall Street Journal.

Haque previously served as Partner and Head of Institutional Product Management at EQT, joining EQT in 2014, where he was responsible for fundraising strategy, sales support, co-investment strategy and execution, as well as senior investor relations in private equity, infrastructure, and real estate. From 2014 to 2024, he co-led Americas client solutions, became the corporate head of infrastructure client solutions in 2024, and joined the global client solutions management group, operations committee, and fundraising forum, having served on the EQT Foundation Investment Committee.

Before joining EQT, he was a Principal at Apax Partners from 2001 to 2014, initially in the technology and telecom investment team, later moving to investor relations, and leading the allocation of macro, credit, and quantitative hedge fund strategies. His career began at McKinsey & Company, serving clients in technology, retail, and financial services. He holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Engineering from the University of Michigan.

The announcement did not disclose fundraising targets, management fees, carry, or his personal investment stake, nor did it list specific pensions, endowments, or sovereign funds he will bring in. Lightspeed defines the role as one of relationship and perspective delivery, rather than establishing a new AI fund.

This is a personnel move on the fundraising side, not an exit from projects. Buyers need to see industries rewritten before going public and cannot directly access the founders' pensions, endowments, and sovereign funds; sellers still view venture capital merely as a small allocation before an IPO. Beneficiaries are funds that can turn observations of invested companies into reasons for follow-on fundraising; those under pressure lack founder access and can only chase the same batch of AI companies in the secondary market.
