Musk confirmed that Tesla vehicles will be able to directly connect to PlayStation or Xbox consoles, allowing the entire gaming console to be used on the car's large screen, rather than just connecting controllers.

This statement was made in response to Tesla's release of entertainment visuals for the Cybercab. The official visuals emphasize that the vehicle is equipped with a 22-inch touchscreen, pre-installed with cinema, music, and gaming applications, and plans to add V5 Starlink hardware, positioning the cabin as a mobile space for both work and relaxation. Musk added that the hardware interface allows the console to be directly plugged in.

Tesla has previously allowed gaming in vehicles. Since 2019, users could play arcade games while parked and support Xbox and PlayStation controllers. The 2021 updated Model S / Model X featured an AMD Ryzen with RDNA2 dedicated graphics card, with official entertainment computing power around 10 teraflops, close to the PS5's 10.28 teraflops at the time, and has demonstrated games like "The Witcher 3" and "Cyberpunk 2077." By the end of 2022, some new S / X models began Steam testing, capable of running thousands of games; however, new vehicles in 2024 were notified that they would no longer support Steam after replacing the entertainment computer.

Direct console connections would bring full 3A games into the cabin, but implementation still depends on local approvals for autonomous driving and in-car entertainment, rather than just a promise of an interface for market-wide access.

Market-wise, this is an event-driven product narrative, not immediate shipping. What is being purchased is the expectation of time in the Cybercab / advanced driver assistance cockpit, along with the premium of Tesla turning cars into consumer electronic terminals; what is being sold is the old story of "in-car self-developed games replacing consoles." Beneficiaries are users with existing PS and Xbox inventories and the content pools of console manufacturers; those under pressure are Tesla's self-built Arcade / Steam route and traditional car companies that still view in-car screens as navigation devices. In the short term, more funds are flowing into thematic trading and robot taxi narratives, rather than console shipping data.

Historically, when the Model S Plaid was released, both Tesla's self-made controller and the Xbox One controller were present in the car.
