Elon Musk responded to his earlier statement that "artificial intelligence could expand the global economy by 20% to 30%" by stating that AI combined with robots will more than double the global economy within ten years.

A few days ago, he mentioned at the G20 Innovation Ministers' meeting that AI alone could contribute about 20% to 30% to global output, translating to approximately $20 trillion to $30 trillion annually; he also predicted that humanoid robots could reach about 1 billion units in ten years, with each unit producing about five times the output of a human, totaling more than the entire human population. This time, he placed robots alongside AI, changing the increase from over 20% to more than double. He also stated that by around 2027, AI will significantly reshape digital occupations, making it difficult for software development to compete with models.

In the first half of the year, approximately 19,100 humanoid robots were shipped globally, which is about three times year-on-year, with Chinese companies accounting for about 97%. There is a gap of four orders of magnitude between this and the target of 1 billion units. Tesla has integrated Optimus with its autonomous vehicle fleet as part of the same productivity narrative, with power and manufacturing yield listed by Musk as constraints. The predictions are not official statistics or company guidance.

In market mechanisms, this is an enhanced valuation narrative: shifting from software increments to labor substitution. Beneficiaries include the humanoid robot, electric drive, and reasoning chip supply chains; those under pressure are macro models that extrapolate growth based on existing labor input and the power grid that must finance power expansion. Funds have already priced Tesla and others based on "robots as capacity," but have yet to rewrite global GDP accounts based on a ten-year doubling.

Doubling requires output growth rates far exceeding post-war norms. Shipments are still counted in thousands, while the narrative precedes capacity.
