Harvey secures $550 million financing with a valuation of approximately $15.6 billion

Legal AI company Harvey has completed $550 million in financing, with a valuation of approximately $15.6 billion, although some announcements state it as $15.5 billion. The round was led by Lightspeed Venture Partners and Diffusion.

Diffusion was co-founded by long-time investor Kris Fredrickson, formerly of Coatue. Other investors include Sequoia, Kleiner Perkins, Andreessen Horowitz, Coatue, Conviction, Elad Gil, Evantic, GIC, Goldman Sachs Alternatives, Verified Capital, WNDR, and newcomers Sapphire Ventures and Whale Rock. Total financing has exceeded $1.5 billion. In March 2026, a round raised $200 million at a valuation of $11 billion. Co-founders are Winston Weinberg and Gabe Pereyra.

Annual recurring revenue has surpassed $400 million, nearly doubling in about six months, with over 3,000 client institutions, approximately 80% of Am Law 100 firms using it, including corporate legal departments like Microsoft. The valuation is roughly 39 times revenue. During the same period, the company acquired the AI safety firm Guardrails AI, with co-founders Shreya Rajpal and Zayd Simjee and their team integrated into product and engineering, marking at least the fourth acquisition this year, with the amount undisclosed. The company recently launched Harvey Tenet, trained on open-source weights, and the legal AI benchmark Harvey LAB, with funds aimed at enabling law firms and legal departments to "build and own" intelligence.

Traditional legal information providers like Thomson Reuters are also selling AI search capabilities. Harvey integrates model retraining and safety layers into the same platform, reducing reliance on a single cutting-edge lab interface.

In market mechanisms, this is vertical software pricing based on law firm penetration rates. Beneficiaries are those who can turn contracts, due diligence, and litigation workflows into subscription entry points; pressured are the low-end document tasks charged by the hour and information providers that must follow model investments. Funds from growth rounds are directed into R&D, acquisitions, and on-site engineering teams, bypassing public markets.

The 39 times revenue requirement necessitates renewals and continued doubling of usage. The acquisition of Guardrails turns the risk of AI going off-track into a product feature rather than a disclaimer.
