Robinhood announced that during the HOOD Summit 2026, Bob Iaccino will host a discussion with Kevin Comer from the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and Grace Qi, head of futures products at Robinhood. The topics will include new products, smaller contract sizes, expanded access, and shaping the tools for the next generation of futures trading, taking place exclusively on the summit stage on September 29.

The summit, themed "Engines of Creation," will be held from September 29 to 30 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, marking the third and largest event to date, according to the organizers. On September 29 at 5:30 PM Central Time, Chairman and CEO Vlad Tenev will deliver a keynote address, providing updates for active traders, which will be live-streamed on the app, video platforms, and the official website. The program on the 30th will cover trading labs, podcast stages, and educational sessions. Major sponsors include Cboe, CME Group, Nasdaq, and State Street Investment Management, with supporting sponsors including AWS, iShares, Direxion, Roundhill, and VanEck.

Iaccino is a co-founder of Path Trading Partners with over 33 years in futures and commodities, starting as a floor employee at CME in 1993, later working with Nikko, Smith Barney, and Deutsche Bank Futures, before moving into proprietary trading and futures fund management, appearing in media over 5,000 times. Comer serves as Managing Director of Retail and Market Development at CME, responsible for expanding retail futures options with broker partners. Qi joined Robinhood in 2020, having previously led 24-hour stock trading and fractional shares, and is now head of futures products. Another trading lab will feature Iaccino and CME's Craig Bewick breaking down the macro, volatility, risk control, and execution of gold, silver, and oil, scheduled for the 30th; Chat With Traders will explore a futures order from the perspectives of Robinhood retail, Geneva Trading market-making, and CME infrastructure.

Smaller contracts are part of CME's retail strategy in recent years. Beyond E-mini, there is Micro E-mini, and further down to E-nano, which is about one-tenth of Micro and one-hundredth of E-mini: with the S&P 500 index around 7,000 points, the nominal value of E-mini is about $350,000, Micro about $35,000, and E-nano about $3,500, with point values of $50, $5, and $0.5 respectively. The Nasdaq, Dow, and Russell 2000 also have three tiers. Robinhood's brokerage head Steve Quirk stated that futures are one of the most frequently requested products by users, with 24-hour, 5-day trading allowing for immediate reactions to news. Following the launch of the desktop version Legend, trading volume reached levels in about six months that took him five years to achieve at TD Ameritrade. The Micro E-mini is seen as a key to lowering the entry barrier. Gold users also have contracts as low as $0.5 and retail packages with margins starting around 5%.

Other summit guests include Cathie Wood, Tom Sosnoff, David Hoffman from Bankless, and Henry Schwartz from Cboe. The keynote address is expected to provide updates on tools for active traders, though specific contract lists have not been disclosed in this announcement. Robinhood's futures support page lists contract multipliers, minimum tick sizes, and expiration dates, with standard oil contracts corresponding to 1,000 barrels, and micro contracts being about one-tenth of that.

In market mechanisms, this represents a distribution collaboration between exchanges and retail brokers, rather than a new macro pricing event. The buyers are individual traders looking to place small nominal overnight positions on mobile and desktop; the sellers are CME selling contract flow, while Robinhood sells accounts, margins, and data. Funds are shifting from stock options commission structures to futures fees and overnight financing. Beneficiaries are exchanges that can slice nominal values and entry points with millions in funded accounts; pressured are traditional futures firms that still rely on large contracts and professional terminals for customer acquisition. Smaller contracts lower the threshold for liquidation while increasing turnover and the frequency of misusing leverage.
