Peter Diamandis Announces the Establishment of NeoGenesis Capital to Invest in Colossal's Programmable Biology Platform

Peter H. Diamandis and Yianni Psaltis jointly announced the establishment of NeoGenesis Capital, focusing on the intersection of superintelligence and synthetic biology, and investing in Colossal Biosciences and its platform-derived companies.

Colossal, founded by Ben Lamm and George Church, has publicly demonstrated woolly mice and the resurrection of the thylacine (Romulus, Remus, Khaleesi) through 20 edits across 14 genes, and is advancing steps such as artificial egg incubation.

The company is building an end-to-end platform covering genome reading, AI modeling, multiplex editing, organism cultivation, and scaling, having spun off companies like Form Bio, Breaking, and Astromech, with more stealth projects underway.

The cost of human genome sequencing has dropped from about $100 million in 2001 to around $200, a decrease of approximately 500,000 times; the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub, in collaboration with the Department of Energy, NIH, Google DeepMind, Isomorphic Labs, and Meta, has committed $1.8 billion to generate AI "virtual cell" data.

Diamandis became one of Colossal's early investors in 2021, and this fund chooses to deeply invest in a single platform rather than broadly diversifying, aiming to cover longevity, fertility, agriculture, environmental restoration, and AI-native gene design.

In market mechanisms, buyers are capital focused on programmable biology like NeoGenesis and downstream application companies, while sellers are Colossal's end-to-end editing and cultivation platform; events are driven by public species demonstrations and platform capabilities, with funds flowing from early species resurrection projects to platform-derived companies, benefiting teams that master multiplex editing and AI modeling tools, while traditional dispersed laboratory paths face pressure.

The fund has completed its initial close, focusing on accelerating validated public bioengineering workflows.

Peter Diamandis, as the founder of XPRIZE, invested early in Colossal in 2021, which was co-founded by Ben Lamm and George Church, publicly completing gene editing demonstrations of woolly mice and thylacines, integrating multiplex editing from dispersed laboratory steps into a single workflow.

The capital path reflects starting from species resurrection projects to build a reusable read-model-edit-cultivate platform, then expanding applications through the spin-offs of Form Bio, Breaking, Astromech, etc.; NeoGenesis chooses to deeply concentrate investment in this platform and its derivatives, rather than broadly casting a net, focusing funds on publicly validated toolchains.

This is similar to the historical shift from single scientific demonstrations to platform tools, then deriving multiple application companies, and also resembles the trend of synthetic biology transitioning from laboratory to engineering discipline after the drop in genome costs; it is currently at a turning point from reading life to designing and producing life, accelerated by AI modeling.

Essentially, it represents a technological replacement: AI-assisted multiplex editing and end-to-end platforms are beginning to replace traditional dispersed, expensive gene engineering processes, shifting biological design from scientific experiments to scalable engineering products, thereby shortening the cycle from genomic changes to living outputs.
