Google Workspace announced that Google Vids has integrated Gemini's latest multimodal model, Omni 1.1, and added creative controls. Any Google account can try it for free on desktop via vids.new.

The official path is to open Vids and select "Create AI videos." New controls include: using Extend to lengthen shots while maintaining continuity of characters, lighting, environment, and style; setting segment durations by seconds to align with narration; generating brand new 1080p shots, or upgrading existing AI segments to 1080p for timeline continuity. The company markets it as "directing stories, not just writing prompts," targeting businesses, community mobilization, and product showcases without requiring a professional editing budget.

Omni 1.1 Flash entered Flow and developer tools in August: when extending shots, it can analyze up to about 10 seconds of previous content, not just the last second; segments can be connected in 10-second increments, accumulating about 40 seconds. The paid tier of Flow also offers frame interpolation for start and end frames, up to 3 seconds of reference video, 360p drafts, and up to 4K scaling. The free tier for all accounts explicitly states 1080p and segment durations by seconds, without promising 4K in the same product blog post. Vids has already integrated Veo extension, parallel output, virtual avatars, and Lyria music this year, with personal accounts previously having about 10 free generations per month as an old quota.

This integrates video generation into the same login as Docs and Sheets. The free trial lowers the barrier for businesses to try it, and changes the default editor in Workspace from a timeline tool to a generator that can produce new 1080p shots. Duration can align with narration, indicating the goal is internal training, product introductions, and event previews, rather than long shots for short film platforms.

In market mechanics, the buyers are small to medium teams with existing Google accounts looking to reduce editing seat purchases; the pressure on sellers falls on independent video tools selling 1080p drafts by points. Funding flows through Workspace subscriptions and Gemini Ultra seats, with the free tier exchanging quotas for habits. Beneficiaries are companies that have integrated Vids into their collaborative processes, while those under pressure must create separate accounts to access dedicated generators for extendable shots.

On a supplementary note, Google has not disclosed the monthly limits for this free trial, watermark rules, and commercial licensing boundaries. The API side charges based on output seconds and resolution, which is not on the same pricing table as the Vids free tier.
