Former Hack VC partner and platform head Hsin-Ju Chuang was found dead near the Interstate 15 off-ramp in California's Mojave Desert at the age of 37. The cause of death is still under investigation and has not been officially confirmed.

At 9:48 PM on August 24, California Highway Patrol received a request for a welfare check and discovered her deceased in her vehicle at the southbound Fields Road exit off Interstate 15 (Exit 213) near Newberry Springs. Local media reported she was a resident of North Las Vegas. The local high temperature on the day of the incident reached 108°F (approximately 42°C). The investigation is being handled by the Barstow division of the California Highway Patrol, with potential causes mentioned including high temperatures, sudden illness, and vehicle mechanical failure, none of which have been confirmed.

The San Bernardino County Coroner's Office stated that the official cause of death will await autopsy results. Death investigations requiring toxicology tests typically take an average of 6 months to a year to complete. Several weeks after the incident, the autopsy results have not been released, and police have not disclosed any information regarding homicide or third-party involvement.

The day before her death, on August 23, Hsin-Ju posted that she would rather take no money than accept a settlement agreement that required her to remain silent. She stated she had fired the law firm Sanford Heisler Sharp and planned to publicly disclose all evidence from her time at Hack VC on August 26. She was found dead just one day after this post and two days before her planned disclosure.

Her allegations against Hack VC included four main points: First, she was required to continue working during a medical emergency. Second, the company threatened to blacklist her in the industry if she resigned before completing an event. Third, there were issues with her health insurance after her departure. Fourth, the company continued to exert pressure during legal negotiations. Hack VC later issued a statement acknowledging awareness of the related posts, expressing deep concern for her health, but noted significant differences in understanding the events, and out of respect for privacy, they do not intend to discuss details publicly.

Hsin-Ju was a seasoned growth professional in the crypto industry. Since 2021, she served as a venture partner at Hack VC and was responsible for platform operations. Previously, she was the head of growth at Solana from 2018 to 2019, head of growth at Stellar and Lightyear from 2017 to 2018, co-founded Dystopia Labs, and served as a mentor at 500 Startups. She graduated with a degree in cognitive science from the University of California, San Diego.
