Reliability company Raindrop announced a $50 million Series A round led by CRV, with participation from existing investors Lightspeed and Y Combinator, as well as researchers and executives from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Thinking Machines. The funds will be used for anomaly detection research, business expansion, and completing simulation products. The company describes itself as the "sentinel of agents," with clients including Vercel, Framer, Clay, and Fortune 100 companies.

The new product, Raindrop Simulations, is entering research preview and is expected to be available within a month. Traditional evaluations rely on pre-written test cases by teams, which can only capture known failures. Simulations replay real production traffic and existing test cases against proposed agent changes, then use anomaly detection to scan results, attaching them to each code merge request to catch unexpected behaviors before deployment. Lightspeed partner Bucky Moore stated that agents can still fail in production in ways that were not anticipated, even with test sets.

The founding team includes Zubin Koticha, Ben Hylak, and Alexis Gauba. Hylak worked at Apple on human interface for four years, contributing to VisionOS; Gauba co-founded the DeFi options protocol Opyn, which was acquired by Coinbase. In December 2025, Lightspeed led a $15 million seed round, with founders from Figma, Vercel, Replit, Cognition, Notion, and others participating. Within a year, the company expanded from startup tools to production traffic in healthcare, logistics, and Fortune 100.

The product line has expanded from monitoring to closed-loop systems. Version 2.0 introduces self-healing: detecting failures, identifying root causes, and having programming agents fix them, then writing tests to prevent regressions. Layering involves single-instance failures, cross-user issues, and scoring signals for each trajectory. Triage agents can be invoked by programming agents via Slack or through MCP. Speak uses it to serve approximately 15 million users. CRV partner Reid Christian views failures as detection issues typical of security companies, rather than just piling on test cases.

Agents and non-deterministic software create a false sense of security with "tested" claims. Test coverage addresses known distributions, while production covers unknown tool calls and long trajectories. Simulations feed production distributions back into development, effectively connecting the sentinel's camera to the release gate. High-risk scenarios are highlighted in defense and healthcare: minor failures are loops within products, while major failures result in real harm.

The market mechanism shifts reliability budgets from testing teams to production replay. Buyers are enterprises and development platforms that have already integrated agents into user paths and fear silent failures; sellers are startups that can only prove test set success. Beneficiaries are monitoring layers that consume production trajectories and can intercept regressions before merges; those under pressure are testing tools that only sell demos and benchmark scores. Funding has shifted from "creating agents" to "preventing agents from running amok in production."
