Jacquelyn Melinek: Payments Once Rejected Become the Default

Cryptocurrency podcast host Jacquelyn Melinek stated that sometimes it feels like everything changes overnight. She has expressed similar views on her show.

She cited Apple Pay as an example. When the product was launched, she refused to use it, believing that putting payments on a phone was both absurd and unsafe. Now, she hardly carries a credit card. Her conclusion is that practices once deemed absolutely unacceptable can become the primary, or even the only, way to do something.

She emphasizes the turning point after using it. Once people try it and find that it simplifies their lives, they are rarely willing to go back. The post did not provide adoption rates, transaction volumes, or timelines, nor did it name the next technology that is currently being rejected.

Melinek is the founder of Strata Media, hosts Talking Tokens, and co-hosts CryptoAmerica, a show discussing on-chain finance and token investments. In September 2025, during the Korea Blockchain Week, she asked World Liberty Financial about their retail plans, and they stated they would launch a debit card and app, intending to integrate the stablecoin USD1 with Apple Pay, positioning the app close to transfers and transactions.

Apple Pay was launched in 2014 with the iPhone 6, initially covering only American Express and some banks for contactless payments. She uses her own refusal and later decision to stop carrying cards to illustrate that payment habits can reverse within the same person. The post extends this experience from mobile wallets to any practice currently deemed absolutely unacceptable.

This is a statement about usage habits, not a product launch. The buyers are cardholders who have already made mobile wallets the default, while the sellers are merchants and issuers still requiring physical cards. Funds flow from swiping and inserting cards to the same card credential in a phone. The beneficiaries are wallets occupying the default entry and the integrated stablecoin cards, while those relying on physical cards and manual input face pressure. She does not claim that all refusals will reverse, only that few are willing to revert after trying something more convenient.
