According to the Energy Information Administration, diesel inventories are approximately 106.3 million barrels, 13% below the five-year average; refineries are operating at full capacity due to high cracking margins, and last week's inventory increase has not yet filled the gap. The average diesel price in California is about $7.91, with some stations nearing the price ceiling. The national average gasoline price remains above $4, with the gap between diesel and gasoline widening.

Diesel drives freight, rail, agricultural machinery, and construction sites; households will bear the costs through freight charges even if they do not fill their tanks. Greene directly linked pump prices to war spending and energy disruptions, without providing a ceasefire timeline or inventory policy details. The national average is based on station sampling, with significant differences among states, and some states in the Midwest have already surpassed $6 individually.
