OpenAI Chief Futurist Joshua Achiam Announces Departure, Last Day on 24th of This Month

OpenAI Chief Futurist Joshua Achiam publicly announced his departure on X with a farewell letter on Slack, stating that he will leave on the 24th of this month. He did not provide specific reasons but mentioned that he believes he can continue to promote the mission of safe AGI outside the lab.

Achiam joined in 2017 as an intern, later becoming the head of the mission alignment team. After the team was disbanded in February this year, he transitioned to Chief Futurist, focusing on the research of AGI's impact on society, policy, and safety.
