Contra Labs released the "Creative Intelligence Report 2026," surveying over 150,000 active creative professionals and connecting to Contra marketplace transactions; the underlying network indicates over 2 million creative practitioners. The conclusion is that the narrative of elimination from three years ago has not occurred, with adoption rates exceeding 70% and integrated into daily production.

The report breaks down the process into three segments: research exploration, drafts, and refinement. The initial phase uses models for competitive product collection and brainstorming, the middle phase employs Claude or ChatGPT to challenge logic and refine copy, while the final aesthetic, details, and delivery are still decided by humans. The report notes that the primary reason for hesitation in usage is cost and quality perception, with a still short list of tools actually in use. Among the fastest-growing tools, Claude is mentioned.

The metric for measurement is project scale, not hourly rates. Creative professionals effectively using AI see an average project scale increase of over 40%. The report attributes premium pricing to aesthetics, perspectives, business judgment, and overall direction, noting that these four aspects have become more expensive as tool barriers decrease. Contra is also conducting a Human Creativity Benchmark, scoring model outputs with verified creative professionals, selling judgment layers rather than just images.

New deliveries are calculated based on "AI-native services provided or planned," not verified client budgets. AI workflow design increased by 60.0%, AI creative director roles by 50.0%, AI landing page generation by 49.8%, brand image systems by 36.6%, creative evaluation and AI quality inspection by 32.7%, brand prompt asset packages by 31.8%, AI-native UGC character settings by 26.9%, and synthetic brand photography by 21.5%. Corresponding tasks include building workflows, creating visual libraries, producing commercial stills without studio shoots, and tagging generated results.

The report was released by the builders of Contra and Contra Labs on October 8, featuring three years of data. The page states: The story from three years ago was that AI would replace creative professionals; what is happening now is not that. Over 70% of adopters are earning in entirely new categories, rather than just faster versions of the same poster.

This is a supply repricing, not a financing round. Buyers have shifted from paying per poster or per clip to paying for workflows, prompt libraries, and directorial rights; sellers embedding models into deliveries expand project scales, while those refusing to use them remain limited to generable processes. Tool subscriptions remain a cost item, with freelancers calculating five $20 monthly subscriptions, but client budgets have not adjusted accordingly. Beneficiaries are those who can sign off on deliverables and laboratories training models with evaluation data; those under pressure are roles that only sell execution time.
