Google Cloud has posted a full-time position for Industry Principal Architect, Web3 in Hong Kong, with the job listing published on September 15. The role involves being the technical lead for Web3, digital assets, and decentralized technologies in the Asia-Pacific region, serving clients including protocol foundations, institutional exchanges, digital asset custodians, and financial institutions involved in real asset tokenization.

The minimum requirement is a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Additionally, 10 years of experience in system architecture, distributed systems, or cloud infrastructure is required, including experience with enterprise clients or technical leadership. Furthermore, 4 years of production-level Web3 experience is necessary, with examples of protocols including EVM-compatible Layer 1 and Layer 2, Solana, Move, or Cosmos.

Preferred qualifications include direct experience in institutional scenarios: secure multi-party computation, Cloud HSM, transaction signing, and confidential computing. Experience running high-availability, low-latency nodes, indexing layers, and validator networks on GKE is also required. Additional skills in zero-knowledge infrastructure, rollups, cross-chain messaging, and DePIN, as well as smart contracts, security audits, and formal verification, are a plus.

Business knowledge is categorized into three areas: real asset tokenization, stablecoin payment rails, and tokenized deposits and custody architecture in regulated environments. Responsibilities include providing technical consulting to executives, protocol founders, and chief architects of Asia-Pacific clients, connecting decentralized protocols to the cloud.

Specific tasks involve designing high-throughput RPC node clusters, validator operations, on-chain indexing pipelines, and confidential key management, and documenting them as reusable reference architectures. The role also serves as a bridge between clients and Google Cloud's product and engineering teams, relaying on-site bottlenecks back to the product roadmap. The risk, security, and compliance architecture for virtual assets must align with regional regulations, specifically mentioning HKMA and SFC.

The buyers are institutional clients needing node, custody, and tokenization architecture, while the sellers are Google Cloud's Asia-Pacific client engineering teams. This is a job posting, not a new product launch. Budget flows from protocol foundations and banks' cloud expenditures to GKE, HSM, and node clusters. Google Cloud gains entry into institutional Web3 architecture, putting pressure on custodians building their own nodes and competitors selling generic cloud services.
