U.S. President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social on October 9, stating that he just had a very successful call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to the post, both sides agreed that Russia would immediately supply over 300,000 tons of diesel to the U.S. and global markets, with an additional 500,000 tons in November, and then 1 million tons thereafter.

The post further stated that depending on the condition of the diesel refineries, Russia would also deliver 3 million tons of diesel in a short time. Trump attributed the price drop to the U.S. having complete control over the Strait of Hormuz and this Russian energy arrangement. He claimed that diesel prices would drop rapidly at a record pace and emphasized that lowering prices for Americans, especially farmers, ranchers, and truck drivers, is a top priority.

The same post reiterated that Iran will not have nuclear weapons. The post did not include contracts, shipping ports, buyers, prices, or payment methods. Bloomberg reported on this claim, using the headline "Trump says Putin agrees to release diesel." The verified English reports did not include synchronous confirmation from the Kremlin.

At the time of the post, other diplomatic arrangements were underway. Envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met with Ukrainian negotiators in Miami on Friday to discuss the Eastern European war. Townhall reported that Trump had a direct call with Putin last month. The national average price for diesel was $6.28 per gallon on Friday, according to AAA. Earlier this week, Trump signed an executive order allowing tax-free red diesel sales on highways until the end of the year.

FXStreet recorded that West Texas Intermediate crude oil fell from a daily high of about $91.40 to $89.95, then rebounded above $90 per barrel. The dollar index dropped from about 102.26 to 102.20, still up 0.08% for the day. These are price fluctuations following the post, not proof of transactions.

This is not a publicly announced spot contract, but a supply commitment in the president's post. The buyers are identified as the U.S. and global markets, while the seller is Russian diesel mentioned in the post. The event is driven by the call statement, not customs clearance. The beneficiaries are the farmers, ranchers, and truck drivers named in the post, if the 300,000 tons and subsequent batches actually arrive; the pressured parties are diesel buyers still stocking at $6.28 per gallon, as refinery conditions, shipping, and Russian confirmation have not yet appeared in the post.

The immediate 300,000 tons, 500,000 tons in November, and then 1 million tons, plus the 3 million tons depending on refinery conditions, are four segments of different conditional numbers. Only the first three segments are stated as already agreed upon.
