Fox News confirmed on Friday afternoon that President Donald Trump has offered the position of White House Press Secretary to political commentator Katie Zacharia. Reuters cited White House officials stating that the invitation has been extended. Daily Wire quoted two White House officials saying that as of Friday afternoon, she had not yet accepted and had not immediately responded to requests for comment.

Zacharia is currently a senior communications advisor at Trump Media & Technology Group and Truth Social, with a background in law and frequent television commentary. Earlier this year, she briefly served as the spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security, leaving in March according to Reuters, and the New York Post reported she served for about three months, departing after Markwayne Mullin took over as Secretary. She attributed her departure to commuting from California and its impact on her family.

This position follows Karoline Leavitt, who gave birth to her second child in May and left the press secretary role in August. BBC reported she is said to have moved to Fox News. CNN stated that Trump consulted allies, including Leavitt, for advice this week before extending the invitation. Insiders noted that Zacharia was in the Oval Office on Friday morning.

Her public resume connects to the old Republican establishment. She interned at the Republican National Committee during college, worked in the White House Office of Political Affairs during George W. Bush's second term, served as a federal judge's assistant, and spent time at a law firm in Beijing. She also served as legal counsel for Fix California, founded by Richard Grenell, who was Trump's envoy to Venezuela and acted as chairman of the Kennedy Center.

BBC reported that Trump referred to her as loyal, a staunch supporter of MAGA, with a clean record, and noted her involvement in campaigns that helped secure all seven key swing states. BBC described her as the sixth chief spokesperson for two administrations. Reports mentioned her age as either 41 or 42. CNN stated that she was not on the consideration list as of last week.

This is not a transaction but a speaking position ahead of the midterm elections. The buyer is the White House communications system, and the seller is Zacharia, who still holds a communications role at Trump Media. The event is driven by the vacancy left by Leavitt's departure and the upcoming congressional elections in November. The beneficiary is the White House, which needs to solidify its briefing narrative before the election; the pressured party is the appointment process that has yet to receive acceptance confirmation, as Fox only confirmed the invitation, and Daily Wire noted she had not accepted as of Friday afternoon.

The invitation, candidate, and arrival are three steps. What was made public on Friday is the first step, along with the president's comments in his post.
