Palo Alto Networks reported Q4 revenue of $3.41 billion, a 34% year-over-year increase, surpassing the company's previous guidance and market expectations; annual recurring revenue (ARR) for next-generation security rose to $9.1 billion, up 63% year-over-year, with growth attributed to demand for network security, AI security, Cortex, and identity security platforms.

The company's Q4 GAAP operating profit was $172 million, down from $497 million in the same period last year; non-GAAP operating profit increased from $768 million to $1 billion. The decline in GAAP profit was primarily affected by acquisition-related costs, stock-based compensation, and other one-time items, making direct comparisons with adjusted operating performance inappropriate.

Palo Alto stated that the new ARR for next-generation security in a single quarter approached $1 billion, marking the highest quarterly increase in the company's history; the ending ARR for next-generation security was $9.1 billion, with remaining performance obligations (RPO) of $21.2 billion, a 34% year-over-year increase. RPO reflects future revenue that has been contracted but not yet recognized, and does not equate to current cash revenue or guaranteed profit.

The company also completed the acquisition of Console, an AI-native enterprise operations platform that supports the deployment of intelligent workflows within enterprises; Palo Alto plans to integrate it into the Cortex platform, extending security operations capabilities to a broader range of enterprise intelligent usage, permission management, and automation processes. The transaction amount, payment method, and Console's separate revenue scale were not disclosed.

This acquisition continues Palo Alto's strategy of merger integration. The company previously acquired identity security vendor CyberArk and is advancing transactions related to AI security, AI gateways, and observability assets such as Portkey, Protect AI, and Embrace by 2026; the company aims to consolidate network, cloud, endpoint, identity, and AI application protection into a unified security platform.

The company expects Q1 FY2027 revenue to be between $3.3 billion and $3.31 billion, a year-over-year increase of 33% to 34%; next-generation security ARR is expected to be between $9.54 billion and $9.56 billion, a 63% year-over-year increase. The full-year revenue guidance is between $14.1 billion and $14.2 billion, a year-over-year increase of 23% to 24%, with next-generation security ARR expected to reach between $11.075 billion and $11.175 billion, a year-over-year increase of 22% to 23%.

In market mechanisms, enterprises facing intelligent agents, cloud workloads, and AI data center expansion will increase security budgets for network boundaries, identity permissions, model input/output, software supply chains, and endpoint telemetry. Palo Alto acquires Console to gain entry into intelligent workflow and binds customers with Cortex, Prisma, and identity security products; beneficiaries are security vendors that can integrate data, detection, automated response, and access control into a single platform, while pressured are small security companies that only provide point tools and struggle to enter comprehensive enterprise procurement lists.
