Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev stated that the world is in the early stages of a "super cycle" of asset tokenization, and this trend will ultimately reconstruct and "devour the entire financial system."

Tenev previously described tokenization as an "unstoppable freight train"; he now claims that tokenization has moved from industry narrative to mainstream public awareness, with driving factors no longer limited to conceptual promotion.

This year, Robinhood has launched tokenized trading of U.S. stocks and ETFs for eligible users in Europe, positioning it as a gateway for integrating traditional securities into on-chain settlement and 24/7 trading systems. Tenev cites tokenized stocks as a primary case of institutional and product implementation.

He argues that stocks, private equity, real estate, bonds, and other financial assets can reduce friction in accounts, settlement, clearing, and cross-border distribution through tokenization, allowing trading times, minimum investment units, and asset combinability to escape the constraints of traditional market infrastructure.

Tenev's assessment does not imply that on-chain tokens will automatically equate to direct ownership of the underlying securities. The legal rights, custody relationships, redemption arrangements, trading times, investor protections, and regional access for tokenized products still depend on the issuer's structure and the securities regulations of various jurisdictions; products offered by Robinhood are also subject to regional qualification restrictions.

In market mechanics, buyers are retail and institutional investors seeking lower barriers, fragmented shares, cross-border access, or longer trading hours; sellers include traditional brokers, exchanges, custodians, fund issuers, and on-chain financial infrastructure. Tokenization can shift some clearing, custody, and distribution value to blockchain settlement layers, compliant wallets, and stablecoin payment channels; platforms that possess customer accounts, licenses, asset issuance rights, and liquidity networks benefit, while segments relying solely on traditional trading hours and high-friction intermediary fees face pressure.
