The National Design Studio Launches Federal Unified Portal

Tyler Kim, a member of the National Design Studio, announced the launch of America.gov, positioned as a single entry point for the federal government. Users can ask questions in one sentence, and the system aggregates relevant answers from over 29,000 official websites, providing sources and next steps, avoiding the need to open multiple tabs across different agency sites for comparison.

The site was jointly built by the White House National Design Studio and the General Services Administration, stemming from the "Improving the Nation through Design" executive order issued in August 2025. The first phase only provides Q&A and guidance without requiring login; the second phase plans to allow direct applications, registrations, and progress tracking in conversations starting in 2027. The President signed an executive order on the same day, requiring agencies to quickly connect to this portal and integrate with Login.gov.

U.S. Chief Design Officer Joe Gebbia stated that the underlying technology uses Gemini and Grok, with the search limited to official sources. Secretary of State Marco Rubio demonstrated that by 2027, it is expected to complete the first passport application at this portal, including photo submission and logistics tracking. High-frequency services such as healthcare and social security are also listed as subsequent processing targets, while tax filing and national security-related functions are excluded from the coverage order.

The federal website receives approximately 40 million visits per day. The studio previously created vertical sites for drug price comparison and children's accounts, with team members from companies like Apple, Google, and Airbnb, operating under the President's Executive Office. Currently, chat does not retain search history and does not require an account, and full agency capabilities are not yet online.

In market mechanisms, this is an executive order-driven centralized entry, not a commercial trading platform. The buyer is the federal government, consolidating traffic from dispersed agencies into a single dialogue layer, while the sellers are model suppliers and design teams. Funding flows from the digital budget to Gemini, Grok, and portal projects, with Google and xAI receiving official scenarios, putting pressure on traditional independent agency sites. The event-driven nature is strong, with realization dependent on the 2027 processing closure.
