Grok Bot from xAI announces its ability to complete online shopping for users: after connecting to Stripe's Link wallet, users can delegate shopping tasks to the Bot, which will browse and place orders, with payment completed after user approval.

The process is divided into three stages. Users first bind Link, then issue shopping instructions to the Bot; the Bot searches for products and reaches the checkout page using its built-in cloud browser, then sends a request for approval of the proposed charge amount to the user; after approval, Link issues a one-time secure card or shared payment token for the transaction, allowing the Bot to fill out the human checkout form on existing websites without sharing the real card number with the model. This feature is initially available to users in the U.S., with mobile access coming later. Grok Bot entered testing with Grok 4.6 on August 11, and shopping capabilities appeared about 17 days after launch.

A safety valve is in place stating that "consequential actions must be manually confirmed." The Bot pauses for approval before making purchases, transfers, sending messages, or deleting files; documentation lists expense management as one of the uses, while also requiring procurement and fund transfers to go through approval. The product page describes the Bot as a tool for logged-in users, acting as a resident agent to perform tasks in parallel. Personal plans are publicly priced at $200/month, with team seats around $120/month, and are included in SuperGrok and some Cursor packages. While there has been no compensation akin to Jensen Huang's model, Musk has publicly stated that if someone connects the Bot to their bank account: "give it a try, if the Bot messes up, we will make it right;" the terms of service place the responsibility for third-party financial operations primarily on the user, with compensation limits often stated as the higher of the fees paid or $100, excluding gross negligence.

The payment infrastructure comes from Stripe's Link wallet launched on April 29, aimed at agents: authorized agents can apply for temporary virtual cards or shared tokens based on the user's existing payment methods. Therefore, e-commerce does not need to separately modify checkout for Grok Bot, which can fill in card number fields intended for human use. In earlier demonstrations, the Bot had found a 45-pound tungsten cube priced at about $20,000 and reached the order page, still stopping at the approval gate. Gopuff has used Grok as an in-app assistant called Go, which can create shopping carts and predict restocking.

In terms of market mechanisms, this is an upgrade from "finding links" to "settling payments" for agent shopping, not an event-driven situation for a specific stock. The buyer is the user outsourcing browsing and form-filling, while the seller is xAI's subscription and Stripe's agent payment channel. Funds flow from the user's wallet to the merchant via a one-time card after approval, with xAI not handling the card number. Beneficiaries include retail sites that can accept agent traffic without modifying checkout pages, and Stripe, which sells payment infrastructure to agents; those under pressure include shopping plugins that only provide price comparisons and cannot close orders, as well as solutions that expose card numbers in plain text to the model. The requirement for approval for each transaction compresses autonomous purchasing into "form-filling + manual signature," limiting uncontrolled ordering and the scale of fully unattended procurement.

In terms of supplementary information, the feature is still rolling out, and the official timeline for full availability and qualification tiers has not been provided; some have already connected the Bot to banks for billing and anomaly monitoring, running in parallel with the shopping channel, but not using the same set of Link one-time cards.
