Vercel releases Geist Serif, completing the four-piece Geist font family
Vercel officially released Geist Serif on October 30, 2026. It is a high-contrast display serif font that belongs to the same family as the existing Geist Sans, Geist Mono, and Geist Pixel, sharing the same cap height and x-height, and can be mixed in the same layout without changing line spacing.
Geist Serif features finely serrated serifs and sharp hairlines, and was designed for modern high-density screens and physical print. It currently offers only the Regular weight and includes 4 variants (Regular dot, Square dot, Triangle dot, Heart dot), switched through the variable axis Element Shape (ELSH), with Triangle echoing the Vercel logo. The font has a total of 894 glyphs (227 in July), supports 352 Latin-script languages, and handles more than 52,000 kerning pairs. The eye of g is precisely tilted 7°.
The font originated from sketches by Evil Rabbit, was expanded by Andrés Briganti, and was ultimately completed by Mark Davis (WORDMARK). Vercel positioned it as a style inspired by fashion and magazine headlines, paying tribute to the designers of Rolling Stone and Harper’s Bazaar rather than retro computer advertisements. The first prototype was shared on April 1, 2026. Installation is the same as the other fonts in the family: via npm i geist, and it can also be downloaded and tested at vercel.com/font.
Future plans include a variable font from Thin to Black across all weights, an optimized version for body text, italic styles generated by Python, and Cyrillic support, and it will arrive on Google Fonts after launch.

The Geist font family is led by Vercel. Sans and Mono were initially developed with Basement Studio, Pixel was developed with Andrés Briganti, and Serif was completed by Andrés Briganti and Mark Davis. As a frontend deployment platform, Vercel treats fonts as infrastructure for brand and product experience rather than as mere marketing material.
On the capital path, a complete font family reduces the design friction developers face when switching among product interfaces, code, pixel styles, and display headlines. Shared x-height and cap height mean that in projects such as Next.js, different fonts can be mixed directly through the same npm package without recalculating layout. The ELSH axis exposes dot shape as a variable, allowing the same font file to support decorative variants and reducing the cost of managing multiple files.
This mechanism changes the constraints of the design system: in the past, brands often had to choose between sans serif and serif, or rely on external fonts to introduce stylistic breaks; Geist Serif gives the same system a second voice while keeping metric consistency. The key observation metric is whether developers actually adopt the Serif variant in product headlines, rather than stopping at the font demo page, and whether the release cadence of the full weights and body-text version aligns with Vercel product updates.

When metric parameters are shared within the same font family, the cost of mixing approaches zero.
Display serifs on modern high-density screens can pursue contrast that traditional print finds difficult to achieve.
The completeness of a font family itself becomes infrastructure for the product design system.
