AI Data Platform Databricks Completes $5 Billion Financing at $190 Billion Valuation

AI data platform Databricks announced the completion of a $5 billion strategic financing at a post-money valuation of $190 billion, up from a previous valuation of $188 billion due to an increase in the financing scale.

This round was led by existing shareholder Coatue, with participation from Blackstone, MGX, and T. Rowe Price, while Sixth Street Growth joined as a new investor. The company's revenue run rate has surpassed $7 billion, with a year-on-year growth of over 80%.

Co-founder and CEO Ali Ghodsi stated that according to industry definitions before 2022, AGI has arrived, with the real bottleneck shifting to enterprise context, AI token costs, and agent infrastructure. The new funds will be directed towards Unity AI Gateway, Lakebase (serverless Postgres, with a revenue run rate exceeding $100 million), and Genie.

Ghodsi revealed that the likelihood of the company going public before Anthropic or OpenAI is "very low."

From a market mechanism perspective, high valuation financing strengthens the capital attractiveness of enterprise AI data platforms, directing funds towards companies with scalable revenue and AI infrastructure capabilities. Beneficiaries include Databricks and the enterprise AI stack, while those under pressure are data and analytics platforms that have not achieved similar growth.

Databricks has evolved from an open-source big data project into a unified platform for enterprise AI and data, achieving rapid growth in recent years through lakehouse integration and generative AI features, with its valuation soaring from early billions to nearly $200 billion, reflecting the capital market's pricing of enterprise-level AI infrastructure.

In terms of capital strategy, the company has opted for large-scale strategic financing rather than rushing to IPO, motivated by the need to cover costs associated with AI business expansion and recruitment acquisitions, while strategically prioritizing the construction of cross-model routing, serverless databases, and enterprise context capabilities to strengthen its competitive moat.

Similar cases can be seen in the high valuation paths of data platforms like Snowflake, as well as the current phenomenon where AI infrastructure companies support ultra-high valuations with revenue run rates, currently in a phase where enterprise AI is accelerating from experimentation to production-level deployment, with data and agent infrastructure becoming core bottlenecks.

The structural judgment belongs to technological substitution: unified data and AI platforms are replacing fragmented tool stacks, with the mechanism being to reduce AI implementation friction through scalable enterprise context and cost control, thereby capturing more enterprise workloads.
