ChatGPT Can Directly Handle Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides

Tibo, head of Codex, announced that Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides can now be directly handled within ChatGPT.

This feature has changed the way users write documents, brainstorm, or proofread, allowing modifications to be made through chat or voice seamlessly once activated.

ChatGPT officially announced that users can open any Google Drive document, sheet, or slide within the interface, enabling side-by-side collaboration without switching tabs.

This feature is being rolled out to web-based Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users, as well as ChatGPT Work.

Users can edit in real-time while interacting with AI in the same workflow.

From a market perspective, the deep integration of office suites enhances the stickiness of AI assistants, directing usage and subscriptions towards platforms that support native document collaboration; the beneficiaries are heavy office users of ChatGPT, while traditional workflow tools that require frequent application switching are under pressure.

OpenAI continues to advance the integration of ChatGPT with mainstream productivity tools, and this direct embedding into the Google Docs ecosystem continues the path from conversation to workflow execution, reducing context-switching costs.

From a capital perspective, by natively supporting Google Drive files, it strengthens the reliance of enterprises and professional users; the motivation is to increase usage duration and paid conversion in daily office scenarios, strategically positioning ChatGPT as a unified workspace across applications.

Similar cases can be seen with Microsoft's Copilot deeply integrated with Office, as well as various AI sidebar plugins; currently, AI assistants are evolving from standalone chat windows to embedded workspaces.

Structurally, this represents a technological substitution: document editing shifts from multi-tab switching to single-interface conversation-driven interactions, as the mechanism compresses the traditional "open-copy-paste-return" process into continuous dialogue when AI can directly read and write mainstream file formats.
