Aave Founder Stani Opposes EIP-8363 Call to Save ETH Staking

Aave founder Stani Kulechov stated that an increasing number of community members oppose EIP-8363, with resistance rising to new heights, and called for "saving ETH staking."

The proposal aims to gradually burn issuance rewards when the staking ratio approaches 50%, intending to limit staking growth. Critics, including Stani, believe this would make staking yields unpredictable, harm DeFi lending and institutional demand, and potentially exacerbate centralization, as smaller validators are more likely to exit.

This is a community backlash triggered by a proposal related to Ethereum's economic model, focusing on the balance between staking yields and network decentralization. DeFi and independent stakers benefit from the opposition, while supporters of the proposal face pressure from widespread resistance.

EIP-8363 attempts to suppress excessive staking ratios through dynamic burning of rewards, alleviating potential centralization and selling pressure. However, Stani and others point out that declining yields will primarily impact cost-sensitive independent validators, while institutions and exchanges may continue staking, further deepening concentration.

In terms of capital pathways, staking yields serve as a pricing benchmark for DeFi, and any significant adjustments will transmit to lending, LST, and derivatives markets. The motivation is to protect the existing staking economy and the attractiveness of ETH as a productive asset.

Similar to previous controversies over Ethereum's issuance and staking policies, the current phase is a "community veto power test for economic changes."

Essentially, this represents a transfer of pricing power: the network's issuance rules shift from fixed logic to being linked to the staking ratio, mechanically transforming the anti-centralization goal into a yield compression tool.

  1. Changing staking yields means changing the entire DeFi benchmark interest rate.

  2. Proposals aimed at decentralization may first squeeze out smaller validators.

  3. Once community resistance gains scale, it becomes difficult to forcefully implement the proposal.
