Fidelity Plans to Enable Staking and Provide Quarterly Cash Dividends for Spot Ethereum ETF
Fidelity, with approximately $7 trillion in assets under management, is pushing to add staking functionality and quarterly cash dividends to its spot Ethereum ETF (FETH).
The fund has a net asset value of about $900 million and plans to stake up to 100% of its Ethereum under normal circumstances while retaining some liquidity to meet redemption and fee demands.
The fund will retain 85% of the gross staking rewards, with the remaining 15% paid to service providers and node operators.
After covering fund expenses, net rewards will be distributed to shareholders in cash on a quarterly basis.
This move follows IRS-related safe harbor guidance and is similar to measures taken by institutions like Grayscale.
Market mechanisms will drive the functionality upgrade through Ethereum staking yields and ETF competitiveness, potentially directing funds towards spot products with enhanced yields; beneficiaries will be fund holders and node service providers, while competing ETFs without staking functionality will be under pressure.
Fidelity may sell some ETH to raise cash for dividends.

As a traditional large asset management institution, Fidelity is introducing staking and dividend mechanisms by amending its spot Ethereum ETF registration documents, transforming on-chain earnings into visible cash returns for shareholders, further bridging crypto assets and traditional fund products.
In terms of capital flow, the fund will use its held ETH for staking to earn rewards, motivated by enhancing product attractiveness and net returns, converting resources from static holdings into distributable cash flow.
Similar cases can be seen as other Ethereum ETFs gradually add staking functionality, and the current trend of spot crypto ETFs evolving from mere price exposure to yield enhancement, indicating that institutional crypto products are in a phase of differentiated functional competition.
The structural judgment belongs to technological substitution, with the mechanism allowing ETF holders to indirectly participate in network validation rewards through staking, reducing opportunity costs and accelerating traditional capital's acceptance of staking-based crypto products.
