Cointelegraph publicly responded that it will not sell and stated that recent reports about it seeking buyers are based on false information, containing multiple factual errors.

The media outlet expressed willingness to accept oversight but will not remain silent on turning speculation into fact, questioning whether the other party is creating controversy to attract readers, promote activities, or respond to business pressures. It demanded that the publisher and editorial management correct the reports, explicitly acknowledge errors, and ensure corrections receive the same exposure as the original reports, rather than quietly changing wording while maintaining the credibility of the original reports.

Previous reports cited anonymous insiders claiming that the cartoon-illustrated crypto media was looking for buyers, with the asking price undisclosed; at the time of the report, the company had not responded to requests for comments. The public response clearly stated, "We are not for sale," and pointed to the content standards of the publisher as the source of responsibility.

In October 2025, Google issued a manual penalty against it, causing organic search traffic to drop by about 80%, and the website briefly disappeared from search results. Similarweb data shows that monthly visits dropped from over 12 million in December 2024 to just over 700,000 by September 1, 2026. Prior to the penalty, in June 2025, the website also suffered a front-end vulnerability attack.

Cointelegraph was founded in 2013 and has over 200 employees. In July 2022, Luna Media Corporation took over its Middle East and North Africa operations for regional expansion. During the same period, crypto prices remained low and stagnant, causing reader attention to shift away from crypto news, putting pressure on several digital asset media outlets.

This is a reputation hedge driven by events, not a publicly announced equity transaction. The seller's narrative comes from anonymous sources, with no buyer or price mentioned; traffic assets have shifted from search distribution to social media and direct brand engagement, benefiting platforms and competing media that still hold search entry points, while content companies relying on organic traffic and their potential valuations are under pressure.
