Evmos Officially Passed Shutdown Proposal to Cease Operations

The Cosmos ecosystem's EVM-compatible chain Evmos passed the "Evmos Shutdown" proposal on May 15, stopping block production and node operations at block height 37318000 (around May 18).

Currently, services such as the Evmos block explorer and official website are no longer accessible.

As an early Cosmos EVM chain, this complete shutdown marks the end of the project's lifecycle, and users holding related assets should pay attention to asset migration paths.

Evmos has attempted to become an Ethereum-compatible Layer 1 on Cosmos since its launch in 2022, attracting some developers to migrate, but its TVL and activity have long been sluggish. This community proposal to shut down continues the trend of some early chains in the Cosmos ecosystem exiting due to competitive failure.

On the capital front, the Evmos community has officially proposed to stop node operations, releasing remaining developers and liquidity resources, motivated by a desire to reduce long-term maintenance costs and strategically concentrate capital towards Cosmos Hub and other high-activity application chains (such as dYdX, Osmosis, etc.).

Similar to the gradual demise of several niche Layer 1 projects in the past, the current Cosmos ecosystem is transitioning from early reckless expansion to a streamlined focus on high-quality chains. Essentially, this is a capital concentration-driven restructuring of the industry chain. The shutdown of Evmos alters the resource allocation structure within the Cosmos ecosystem, with the mechanism being community governance directly eliminating inefficient chains, prompting capital to concentrate from low-activity dead chains to high TVL, strong application ecosystems, achieving a survival of the fittest in blockchain infrastructure.

Chains that are unused will ultimately be shut down by the community itself.
The lower the liquidity, the faster the death.
The ecosystem never supports idle chains, only leaving battlefields that can create value.
