Michael Bloomberg, Founder of Bloomberg, Guides New Delhi Forum with Advisory Council
Michael Bloomberg, founder of Bloomberg L.P. and Bloomberg Philanthropies, stated that the Bloomberg New Economy Advisory Council is composed of leaders from the public and private sectors, whose experience and insights ensure that the 2026 New Delhi Forum addresses unprecedented uncertainties and opportunities.
The advisory council was restructured in April 2025, co-chaired by former U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo and former Italian Prime Minister and ECB President Mario Draghi. Members include former Indonesian President Joko Widodo, Apollo Global Management co-founder Marc Rowan, former IMF First Deputy Managing Director Gita Gopinath, Moderna co-founder Noubar Afeyan, Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla, Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra, 01.AI CEO Kai-Fu Lee, and former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, among others.
The 8th Bloomberg New Economy Forum will be held in New Delhi from October 13 to 15, marking the first time the forum is hosted in India. The theme is "A World in Play: Defining the New Levers of Power," with over 500 global public and private sector leaders expected to attend, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver a speech.
Founding partners of the forum include DP World, Hitachi Energy, HSBC, Hyundai Motor Company, and Tata Sons. The agenda covers topics such as "The End of Predictability," "Economic Policy in the Age of AI," "Technological Sovereignty," "The Self-Sufficiency Scramble," "Is This the Middle Power Moment?" "ROI (Return on India)," and "The Final Frontier: Who’ll Control Space?"
Attendees also include Blackstone President Jonathan Gray and Tata Sons Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran. Bloomberg noted that this year marks the 30th anniversary of its operations in India. The forum was founded by Michael Bloomberg in 2018 to promote dialogue between business and political leaders from the East and West.
The advisory council provides vision, strategy, and content input to the leadership team, with members required to attend two meetings each year. Funding and attention are directed towards a multilateral dialogue platform centered on India, benefiting businesses and government participants that can establish cooperation amid geopolitical and technological restructuring, while traditional structures reliant on predictable trade and multilateral frameworks face pressure.
The forum is invitation-only, focusing on new levers such as technology, energy, critical minerals, capital control, and payment systems.

Michael Bloomberg founded Bloomberg L.P. in 1981, later serving three terms as Mayor of New York City and advancing issues like climate and public health through Bloomberg Philanthropies. He established the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in 2018, which has been held primarily in locations like Singapore, focusing on global economic dialogue. The advisory council previously included figures like Henry Kissinger in honorary roles, and after its 2025 restructuring, it is co-chaired by Raimondo and Draghi, incorporating Draghi's experiences at the ECB and Italian government, and Raimondo's background in the Commerce Department and as Governor of Rhode Island.
The capital pathway connects businesses and government resources through founding partners (Tata Sons, HSBC, Hyundai, DP World, Hitachi Energy) and the invitation-only forum. Advisory council members come from private equity (Apollo, Soros Fund Management), technology (Moderna, 01.AI), emerging market companies (Econet, Nubank), and former government officials, providing input to shape the agenda. The forum directs attention and potential collaboration towards India's growth engine positioning while discussing AI policy, technological sovereignty, and the role of middle powers.
Similar to the World Economic Forum (Davos), which shapes its agenda through an advisory network and annual summit, the Bloomberg New Economy Forum focuses more on media platforms and specific regions (like its first event in India). It is currently positioned at a stage of reconstructing from traditional multilateral predictability towards sovereignty and strategic autonomy, defining itself as a node for "new power levers."
Essentially, it belongs to the reconstruction of supply chains. Geopolitical competition and technological breakthroughs are pressuring frameworks of trade liberalization and interdependence, and the forum, through its advisory council and founding partners, shifts dialogue nodes from traditional centers to India, leveraging emerging growth engines and the experiences of multilateral participants to reconfigure pathways for capital, technology, and policy attention.
