Ford announced that starting in 2030, it will expand Lincoln brand production in the U.S. and gradually stop importing Lincoln models made in China for the U.S. market, expecting to add thousands of direct and indirect jobs in the U.S.

Lincoln currently produces the Navigator and Aviator in the U.S.: the Navigator is assembled at the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, while the Aviator is produced at the Chicago Assembly Plant. Both models are also exported to Canada, Mexico, and the Middle East.

This adjustment mainly involves the Lincoln Nautilus imported from China. The vehicle is produced in Hangzhou, China, and sold in the U.S., with about 34,700 units expected to be imported in 2025; the current tariffs impose approximately 52.5% on U.S. imports, significantly altering the cost comparison between continued imports and domestic production.

Ford CEO Jim Farley stated that the decision was made after the government clarified trade policies; the White House attributed it to Trump's "America First" trade agenda, including tariffs, supply chain reshoring, and domestic manufacturing incentives, but Ford has not disclosed specific details about the factories, capital expenditures, model allocations, or the number of new jobs created.

Moving production back to the U.S. does not mean that the supply chain can completely detach from China in the short term. While the assembly location can be shifted, components, electronic systems, battery materials, molds, and upstream suppliers still need to be restructured; Ford will delay balancing actual costs, capacity, and model configurations until 2030, reflecting the need to allow several years for manufacturing adjustments.

In market mechanisms, Ford will shift from importing complete vehicles from China to domestic production and component sourcing in the U.S., with potential buyers being U.S. factories, parts suppliers, logistics providers, and the labor market, while sellers will be Chinese exporters and their related supply chains. The policy is triggered by high tariffs, directing funds towards U.S. manufacturing capacity, molds, automation equipment, and regional supply chains; domestic automotive parts, industrial automation, and the regions where factories are located will benefit, while the Chinese export segment and reliance on low-cost imports for dealer inventories will be under pressure. Ultimately, consumer car prices will still depend on domestic production efficiency, component costs, and model pricing.
