OKX CEO Star stated that the team migrated the high-traffic core trading system from one country to another without any user-perceived downtime, experiencing only a slight increase in latency for about 30-40 minutes. This cross-jurisdictional migration of critical trading infrastructure is considered a rare engineering milestone among platforms of similar scale.

OKX had previously announced the migration of its high-frequency trading servers from Hong Kong to Tokyo AWS to enhance performance and latency. The migration was executed without downtime, maintaining the same interface paths and fields, with latency-sensitive services experiencing only a brief increase in delay during the switch. The migration required ensuring the integrity of order book data, consistency of user assets and transaction records, continuity of the matching engine, and compliance across regions, making it significantly more challenging than typical backend restructuring or node expansion.

Star mentioned that the team believes this may be the first such migration of its kind in the industry at a similar scale, although it cannot yet confirm if it is a historical first. Regardless of whether it holds the "first in history" label, this operation at least demonstrates that OKX can complete cross-border production system migrations under extreme traffic pressure without causing significant downtime or functional interruptions for retail and institutional trading users. This capability holds significant strategic value for future global data center layouts, disaster recovery switches, and joint infrastructure (such as the tokenization platform with ICE).

In market mechanisms, OKX acts as a seller of trading performance, stability, and geographical diversity, with users and market makers paying for or contributing liquidity for lower latency, continuously available matching services. Cloud service providers (in this case, AWS Tokyo) earn revenue from computing power and bandwidth from high-frequency trading loads. Platforms that can migrate core systems without downtime will find it easier to persuade institutional clients to run larger-scale strategies and assets; those lacking such engineering and resilience capabilities will struggle to cope with cross-border regulatory changes, data center failures, or regional network risks.
