Einride orders 500 Tesla Semis

Swedish freight company Einride has signed a contract to purchase 500 Tesla Semis, planning to deploy them in the U.S., making it the largest publicly disclosed order for Tesla electric heavy trucks to date.

The first batch of vehicles will be delivered in September, with the 500 Semis joining Einride's North American fleet in phases over the next 24 months; deployment will cover freight corridors in California, Texas, New Jersey, Illinois, and Georgia.

The vehicles will serve Amazon and other Einride customers, integrating into its Saga fleet intelligence platform. This platform is responsible for route planning, charging schedule coordination, and fleet operations management, allowing electric heavy trucks to enter existing customers' ongoing freight contracts.

Einride currently operates about 250 electric trucks; once the 500 Tesla Semis are fully deployed, its electric truck fleet will expand to approximately 750 units, tripling its current scale. This order size also exceeds the 370 Semi order disclosed by WattEV in May.

This procurement will be completed through a third-party financing scheme, with both parties not disclosing the order price, delivery quantities for each batch, or specific customer allocations beyond Amazon. Einride states that this expansion supports its goal of converting approximately $800 million in potential long-term recurring revenue into actual operational freight capacity.

Market Mechanism: Einride is the buyer of vehicles and transportation services, Tesla is the supplier of electric tractors, and shippers like Amazon purchase zero-emission freight capacity; the direct driver of the order is the demand from large enterprises for transportation decarbonization, fleet electrification, and long-term freight contracts. Funds enter Tesla Semi procurement through third-party financing and are recouped through Einride's capacity-based charging model; Tesla gains validation of commercial vehicle production capacity and order visibility, while Einride acquires scaled fleet assets, putting pressure on diesel truck manufacturers, fuel supply chains, and freight nodes unable to provide charging and grid access.
