Perplexity Develops AI Programming Tool Teammate to Challenge Cursor and Claude Code

AI search company Perplexity is developing an AI programming tool called Teammate, aimed at challenging Cursor, Claude Code, and OpenAI Codex.

Teammate will be available for internal engineers starting in May, focusing on long-term software engineering tasks, including project advancement, issue troubleshooting, service monitoring, and vulnerability detection, using model-agnostic design.

Perplexity's CTO Denis Yarats is encouraging engineers to use AI for coding, stating that by the end of the year, software engineers should stop looking at code and directly use AI.
