Ford CEO Jim Farley and JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon announced the Michigan Industrial Innovation and Transformation Launch Platform, with Ford intending to award up to $1 billion in contracts to suppliers over the next decade.

The platform is jointly launched by Ford, JPMorgan, the state of Michigan, Michigan Central, and Newlab, with Governor Whitmer in attendance. JPMorgan intends to provide up to $1 billion in debt financing as part of its $1.5 trillion, ten-year security and resilience plan. Michigan Central, Newlab, and the state economic development company aim to attract 10 to 20 industrial buyers, creating over $1 billion in annual demand by 2036. All amounts must go through their respective qualification, procurement, and approval processes and are not locked-in grants. Buyers will propose challenges, and suppliers will bid, focusing on robotics and advanced manufacturing automation, advanced energy such as nuclear, semiconductors, and energy storage, advanced mobility, aerospace, and critical components, as well as critical mineral extraction, processing, and recycling, and life sciences manufacturing. Buyers do not have to be based in the state.

Farley stated the goal is to connect innovators, suppliers, and manufacturers with the support needed for expansion. Dimon mentioned the continuation of over a decade of collaboration with Detroit, including a previous $200 million commitment, linking demand, capital, and public resources. Ford Foundation and JPMorgan also provided a total of $550,000 to the Detroit nonprofit Focus: HOPE for manufacturing, robotics, and welding training.

Order intentions and loan amounts will be launched simultaneously. Buyers are OEMs looking to shorten supplier validation cycles, while sellers are technology suppliers lacking customers, financing, and labor. The initiative is driven by re-industrialization and supply chain resilience agendas. Beneficiaries are Michigan suppliers that can bid and pass bank risk controls; those under pressure are small firms that cannot meet both procurement and credit conditions, and those still relying on imports for critical minerals and components. The $10 billion over ten years is an ambitious goal, while the annual demand of $1 billion is a third check being sought.
