London AI Recruitment Platform Ethos Completes $22.75 Million Series A Financing

London-based AI recruitment startup Ethos has completed a $22.75 million Series A financing round, led by a16z with participation from General Catalyst.

Ethos utilizes AI to conduct in-depth interviews with candidates and analyzes their academic papers, code, and other professional content to build detailed skill profiles. It then accurately matches experts with paid opportunities, including expert consulting, market research, AI data labeling, advisory services, and full-time positions.

Co-founder and CEO James Lo stated that resumes do not accurately reflect individual capabilities. Ethos aims to help individuals showcase their complete professional abilities in an AI-transformed economy while assisting companies in finding truly matched talent.

Ethos, founded by James Lo, has previously gained early validation in the AI-driven talent assessment field. This round led by a16z signifies top VC recognition of "post-resume era" recruitment tools, continuing to address the core pain points of AI-generated resume proliferation and capability verification, while similar platforms have mostly remained at the initial screening stage.

In terms of capital strategy, Ethos will primarily use the funding to expand its AI interview engine and skill profile database, achieving rapid monetization through a dual revenue model (companies pay for matching + expert revenue sharing) while accumulating high-quality talent data to create network effects. The goal is to become the standard layer for expert capability certification in an AI-transformed labor market.

Similar early financing paths of AI recruitment tools like HireEZ and Paradox, as well as LinkedIn's transition to AI matching, place Ethos at the forefront of transforming traditional resume recruitment into an AI-native deep capability assessment platform.

Essentially, this is a technological replacement: Ethos replaces traditional resume screening and manual interview processes with AI interviews and multidimensional content analysis, shifting capital from inefficient recruitment funnels to precise skill profiling and opportunity matching. Mechanically, it reduces information asymmetry through structured assessments, promoting a structural shift in the labor market from "resume competition" to "real capability pricing."

Resumes are dead in the AI era; what truly matters is real capabilities validated by AI. The best recruitment is not about faster screening but about accurately pricing hidden expert capabilities. When AI can understand papers and code, the talent market shifts from who can write a resume to who truly understands the field.
