Strategy Chairman Michael Saylor shared a post stating "sorry" and told Fundstrat "there is no second best asset," reiterating his Bitcoin-only stance.

The post linked to an AI-generated short video: a virtual version of him walking in Times Square, calling Bitcoin the top property, perfect currency, and best asset. The video responds to the viral clip "Tom Lee finally finished Saylor's Bitcoin AI series," which has over 500,000 views. Fundstrat co-founder Tom Lee responded with a string of laughing emojis. The public disagreement between the two is that Saylor has nearly all of his company's balance sheet invested in Bitcoin, while Lee has repeatedly stated that Ethereum has the potential to outperform Bitcoin. Saylor's catchphrase "there is no second best" has been repeated for years to exclude gold, stocks, and other crypto assets as reserve alternatives.

Strategy holds approximately 840,400 Bitcoins, about 4% of the total supply, with an average cost of around $75,385. When the price approached $80,000, the company returned to a floating profit after previously facing a floating loss of about $13 billion around $58,000 in July. The company changed its stance on "never selling Bitcoin" this year: since May, it has sold about 6,948 Bitcoins for approximately $432.5 million, including 1,690 Bitcoins for about $109 million in the week of August 9, used to repurchase floating-rate preferred shares STRC. During the same period, the company raised about $2 billion through the issuance of common stock, setting aside about $1.59 billion in cash reserves, increasing its dollar reserves to about $5.1 billion, claiming a net leverage of about 0, with reserves covering preferred stock dividends and interest for about 3.9 years, and did not buy Bitcoin that week. STRC has risen about 9% over the past year, while Bitcoin has fallen about 47%, and common stock MSTR remains well below its 52-week high.

Saylor places Bitcoin at the bottom of a five-layer structure: above digital capital are digital credit, currency, yield, and equity, without altering agreements or staking. STRC is designed to compress high-volatility assets into lower-volatility yield instruments. The Wall Street Journal noted this summer that the company's self-created mNAV premium logic will stall the "issue stock to buy Bitcoin" cycle when the stock price is no longer higher than the market value of the holdings.

Mechanically, this is a narrative collision, not a new on-chain lockup. The buyers are Bitcoin maximalist funds confirming their positions based on Saylor's statements, while the sellers are Fundstrat's audience viewing Ethereum as a higher beta. Funds do not shift positions based on a single post; the real flow still depends on ETF net inflows and whether Strategy resumes Bitcoin purchases. The beneficiaries are the Strategy preferred stock structure that needs the "only reserve" narrative to maintain premium financing, while the pressured side hopes the company will immediately return cash to the market. The AI back-and-forth reduces seriousness but does not change reserve concentration: selling Bitcoin to improve preferred stock and cash reserves temporarily removes buying pressure from this largest corporate Bitcoin holder.

In a supplementary statement, the company noted that during a week when its holdings remained unchanged, Bitcoin recorded one of its largest weekly gains in USD terms, with the market rising on its own without its buying.
