Stripe Co-founder Patrick Collison: Privy Asset Scale Increased 25 Times

Patrick Collison stated that since joining Stripe over a year ago, Privy's asset scale has increased approximately 25 times, the number of monthly active developers has tripled, and revenue has increased about nine times, currently facilitating nearly $25 billion in transactions each month.

Companies like Ramp, Deel, Klarna, and Hyperliquid are building embedded banking features based on Privy. Stripe is deeply integrating Privy into Treasury, Link, and Connect to accelerate global expansion and feature development, with plans to launch the Link balance feature.

Privy's wallet infrastructure now supports AI agents to conduct transactions and earn income, with related applications including Merit Systems and Nevermined. Collison expects the agent economy to continue to grow rapidly.

Both parties are building a unified API to support holding stablecoin balances and earning yields, fiat fund transfers, and arranging expenditures via bank cards. Collison also noted that there is still a lot of work to be done in integrating Privy, Bridge, and other Stripe businesses.

After Privy joined Stripe, wallet assets, developer activity, and revenue have all significantly increased, with monthly transaction volume nearing $25 billion. Embedded banking features are being utilized by several companies in their products, covering payment, payroll, and transaction-related scenarios.

This disclosure comes against the backdrop of Stripe's ongoing efforts to integrate stablecoin and wallet capabilities. Corporate clients access embedded features through Privy to reduce self-built costs, with funds flowing towards wallet asset expansion and transaction facilitation, allowing Stripe to achieve higher frequency in global payments and balance scenarios, while competing solutions that have not completed deep integration face efficiency pressures.

Patrick Collison and John Collison founded Stripe in 2010, initially focusing on developer-friendly payment APIs, and later expanded into corporate finance, global collections, and stablecoin through acquisitions and product expansion. After 2023, Stripe completed the acquisition of Bridge, enhancing capabilities related to stablecoin inflows and outflows, while Privy was integrated over a year ago to complement the wallet and embedded account layer.

Funding and resources are primarily directed towards the deep integration of Privy with Treasury, Link, and Connect, as well as the construction of a unified API. This API will place stablecoin balance yields, fiat inflows and outflows, and bank card expenditures under the same interface, aiming to shorten the path for enterprises from wallet opening to global spending, while allowing AI agents to directly hold and use balances for transactions.

Similar paths can be seen with PayPal embedding social payment and balance features into its main account system after acquiring Venmo, and Adyen covering multi-regional payments and settlements through a single API. Currently, Privy is transitioning from an independent wallet infrastructure to a deep integration within Stripe's core products, shifting focus from developer tools to enterprise embedded banking and agent transaction scenarios.

Essentially, this represents a restructuring of the industry chain. Wallets, stablecoin balances, and fiat payments were originally dispersed among different service providers, but are now integrated into a unified API and Link balance feature. Mechanically, Stripe connects Privy's wallet layer with Bridge's stablecoin channel and its own payment network, reducing operational and compliance costs for enterprises switching between multiple platforms, transforming embedded banking features from external tools into built-in modules of payment infrastructure.
