Binance founder Changpeng Zhao recalled that one day earlier this year, while lying in bed handling work, his window suddenly shook. He got up and went to the balcony, where he saw a smoke trail in the sky.

Zhao lives on Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi, overlooking Iran across the Persian Gulf. At that time, Iran had just launched a missile towards the UAE. He has long suffered from chronic pain and often works while lying down; after seeing the trail, he returned to bed to continue working.

He later stated that more people die in traffic accidents than from missiles, and that security here is very good. This attack was recorded as the beginning of a regional geopolitical crisis, and he did not interrupt his work that day.

Zhao, 49, returned to Abu Dhabi after serving his sentence and remains the majority shareholder of Binance. His residence is a nine-bedroom villa, staffed with four bodyguards and a chef, and he owns a yacht named Da Moon. The New York Times estimates his wealth at $114 billion.

Before settling in the UAE, he had no fixed country of residence. He was born in China, moved to Canada with his family at the age of 12, and later worked in technology between New York, China, and Japan. He now travels across Asia on a private jet, providing cryptocurrency regulatory advice to governments.

The incident did not prompt him to sell his shares or change his residence. The buyer remains the controlling shareholder who treats Abu Dhabi as an operational base, while the seller is not in the secondary market. The missile strike affects the regional risk premium, and he compares personal risk to traffic mortality rates to mark it as acceptable. The beneficiary is Binance, which continues to treat the Gulf as its headquarters, while the pressured party is the regional assets that consider the same airspace as a risk for routes, energy, and personnel.

The villa's security consists of four bodyguards and regional protection. He did not provide the missile impact point, interception results, or casualty figures.
