Jeff Bezos, co-CEO of Prometheus, completed a $12 billion financing round in June, valuing the company at $41 billion. The goal is to build an "artificial general engineer" that allows AI to directly participate in the design and manufacturing of jet engines, pharmaceuticals, and complex industrial equipment.

Prometheus has previously raised about $6.2 billion, with this round of investors including Bezos himself, JPMorgan, BlackRock, and Goldman Sachs. The company currently has around 150 employees and is focusing on large-scale computing power to shorten the cycle from design to manufacturing.

Bezos has also invested about $28 billion of his personal funds into Blue Origin, which recently completed its first round of external financing of about $10 billion. Blue Origin has applied to the FCC to launch up to 51,600 satellites for orbital data centers.

In an interview with Fox News at the Blue Origin factory, Bezos stated that the U.S. must return to the moon before China and believes that a manned moon landing by 2028 is possible. He also predicts that AI will significantly enhance productivity, allowing some households to maintain a three-day workweek.

He positions Prometheus as a tool to accelerate inventions in the physical world, claiming it can reduce work that would typically require hundreds of engineers ten years to complete to fewer people and a shorter timeframe. He also mentioned that Blue Origin itself could serve as a case study for this technology.

Capital is flowing into both physical AI design tools and space infrastructure, with Prometheus focusing on compressing engineering cycles and Blue Origin laying out orbital computing and lunar logistics. Software AI companies are competing for workflows, while Bezos shifts his focus to the capabilities of physical product design and manufacturing.

Bezos stated in the interview that even if there is a bubble in AI, inventions themselves will not disappear, drawing a parallel to the fiber optics left after the internet bubble and the drugs left after the biotech bubble.
