In terms of capital flow, this change is not about "disappearing travel demand," but rather "migration of travel budgets." Statistics show that with fewer Canadians traveling to the US, they are spending more on domestic and overseas travel, indicating that the US is losing high-spending, repeat visitors who significantly contribute to the retail and hotel sectors.

Historically, such a withdrawal of cross-border traffic typically first impacts border states, shopping destinations, and industries linked to flights/hotels, as shopping and leisure account for a large proportion of Canadian spending in the US. The US Travel Association has previously pointed out that states like Florida, California, Nevada, New York, and Texas are particularly sensitive to Canadian visitors.

Essentially, this is a restructuring of the supply chain, as tourism flow is not simply decreasing but being redirected under the influence of political and pricing signals. Whoever captures this portion of traffic will also capture the corresponding revenues from hotels, dining, retail, and transportation.
