Unified Billing for X, Grok, and Cursor Slowly Launching Globally Today

Mridul Singhai, head of X product engineering, stated that the unified billing for X, Grok, and Cursor is slowly launching globally starting today. The unification of the four companies presents unique engineering challenges, and users are asked to be patient while issues are resolved.

The official account later announced the unification of Grok, Cursor, and X Premium plans, introducing The X Subscription. Cursor has confirmed it is now part of this subscription, and existing subscribers can retain their original plans or switch.

The paid plans share a usage pool covering Cursor, Grok Build, and other Grok products, with Grok model coding usage being double that of the equivalent Cursor plan. The Premium, Super, and Ultra tiers include Grok Bot. To free up more Grok usage, third-party models in Cursor will switch to API pricing.

Previously, users reported overlapping subscriptions for X Premium+, SuperGrok, Cursor, and Grok Bot, with limits not stacking. The unified plan aims for a single bill and shared limits.

Singhai previously responded to subscription confusion, stating the team is addressing real engineering challenges from multiple angles: user experience, engineering, and compliance. Cursor was acquired by SpaceX in August 2026, and the Grok model has been deeply integrated.

Capital and subscriptions are shifting from multiple independent bills to a single unified plan, driven by user overlap in payments and non-sharing of limits. High-frequency cross-product users and the platform ecosystem benefit, while users maintaining multiple subscriptions and third-party model pricing face pressure.

As the head of X product engineering, Mridul Singhai has previously addressed the issue of overlapping subscriptions across multiple products and is now promoting the unified billing for X, Grok, and Cursor, following the acquisition of Cursor by SpaceX and the deep integration of the Grok model into coding tools.

In terms of capital flow, the unified plan merges the previously scattered X Premium, Grok subscriptions, and Cursor seats into a single bill and shared usage pool, shifting funds from multiple channels to centralized settlement. The motivation is to reduce user friction and increase cross-product stickiness, reallocating resources from independent billing systems to unified engineering and compliance.

Similar cases include early cloud vendors merging billing for compute, storage, and AI services, as well as social platforms bundling content and tool subscriptions. The current phase is transitioning from independent operations of multiple products to a unified ecosystem subscription, with system integration among the four companies posing a core challenge.

This essentially represents a restructuring of the industry chain: scattered subscriptions are replaced by a unified plan, with mechanisms in place to share limits and provide a single entry point to lower switching costs, allowing the platform to control cross-product usage distribution, thereby centralizing user spending and data.
