Apple to Announce New Smart Home Hub Named HomeView

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple will announce a new smart home hub named HomeView at its "Welcome home" event on October 13, with shipments expected in mid-November.

The device features an A18 chip and is positioned as a Siri AI home command center, equipped with a display and speaker base. The desktop version comes with a metal speaker base and is available in four colors: space gray, silver, starlight, and pink; the wall-mounted version has a square base and is only available in space gray and silver.

Interaction is primarily voice-based, with the screen supporting touch. It runs limited Apple applications and does not have a standalone App Store, allowing users to project third-party widgets from nearby iPhones. The sound quality is superior to the new HomePod mini.

During the event, a new Apple TV 4K with an A19 chip and a HomePod mini with an S10 chip will also be launched, both expected to arrive on October 30, with HomeView being released later. The name comes from a related trademark application, with "View" emphasizing long-distance viewing and voice control rather than a tablet experience.

For years, there have been rumors about Apple developing a screen-equipped home device to fill an ecological gap, and this marks the formal productization. The design is reminiscent of the iMac G4 style, with the display floating above the base.

Market-wise, the event is driven by Apple's effort to fill the hardware gap in smart home devices. Beneficiaries include Siri and HomeKit users within the Apple ecosystem and accessory manufacturers, while existing screen-equipped speakers like Amazon Echo Show and Google Nest Hub will face pressure on their market share.

Apple has long relied on the Home app and HomePod in the smart home sector, lacking a standalone hub device, which has put it at a disadvantage in the screen-equipped speaker market dominated by Amazon and Google. Due to delays in Siri AI upgrades, the release of related products has been pushed to align with iOS 27 in the fall of 2026.

From a capital perspective, Apple integrates its own A18 chip with Siri AI, making the device an ecological entry point rather than an open tablet. It also collaborates with companies like LG to launch accessories, expanding HomeKit compatibility. The design of HomeView, which lacks an App Store, reduces development and review costs, concentrating control on voice and Apple applications.

A comparable case is Amazon's Echo Show, which became a home voice hub through Alexa, and Google's Nest Hub, which enhances the assistant experience with a display. Currently, Apple is in the "phase of filling the home hardware gap to lock in user ecosystems," extending smart capabilities from mobile to fixed scenarios.

Structurally, this represents a reconstruction of the industry chain and ecological control. The fixed home hub centralizes multi-device control from mobile to a dedicated screen, with voice prioritization lowering the operational threshold. The mechanism is that Apple binds smart home functionality to closed applications and chips, shifting smart home control from third-party dominance to its own entry point, increasing user dependence on iPhones and subscription services while reducing external platforms' penetration into home scenarios.
