Strategy has recently raised funds through the issuance of additional MSTR common stock, using the proceeds to pay STRC preferred stock dividends, repurchase STRC, and bolster its USD reserves; however, it has not traded Bitcoin in the past week nor executed MSTR repurchases.

As of the week ending August 16, Strategy sold approximately 3.459 million shares of MSTR through its ATM program, netting $333.7 million; of this, $52.4 million was used for STRC dividends, $132.2 million for repurchasing about 1.389 million shares of STRC, and $149.1 million was added to USD reserves, raising the reserve balance to $4.8 billion.

The company holds 840,447 Bitcoins, with a total cost of $63.36 billion and an average cost of about $75,385. There was no change in the BTC holdings that week, indicating that the latest MSTR issuance proceeds were not used to increase BTC holdings, and there was no cycle of "selling BTC to buy STRC and then repurchasing MSTR" during that week.

In the previous two weeks, the company did sell Bitcoin: in the week ending August 9, it sold 1,690 BTC for $108.6 million, all of which was used to repurchase STRC; in the week ending August 2, it sold 1,638 BTC for $104.7 million, part of which was used for STRC dividends and repurchases. Since June 21, the company has not added any new BTC positions, having sold nearly 7,000 BTC over the past two months.

Strategy's logic is to first repair the pricing and stability of its "credit instrument" STRC. STRC offers a 9% variable dividend and is a perpetual preferred stock, with management hoping to maintain it around a reference price of $100; Saylor stated that the company may repurchase MSTR when it trades at a discount to net asset value, but this is currently a lower priority than maintaining STRC's credit status.

In market mechanics, MSTR common stockholders bear the dilution of equity caused by the ATM issuance, with funds flowing to STRC preferred stockholders, USD reserves, and stabilizing the company's capital structure; repurchasing STRC will reduce its circulating supply and support price and credit perception. If STRC maintains near par value, the company will find it easier to finance with preferred stock and credit instruments; if MSTR's mNAV approaches or falls below 1, continuing to issue common stock to buy BTC will no longer naturally increase each share's BTC exposure, and common stockholders will be more concerned about dilution, the priority of preferred stock, and the use of cash reserves.
