The chart compares the estimated costs in July 2026 dollars: approximately $704 billion for the U.S. Interstate Highway System, about $203 billion for the International Space Station, and around $126 billion for California's high-speed rail, alongside the announced investment of about $100 billion for the Louisiana Starship base, stating it will generate downstream economic value far exceeding the initial figures, similar to the highway network. Louisiana announced with SpaceX in Abbeville: the project will be located on approximately 125,000 acres of coastal land in Vermilion Parish, planning up to 10 Starship launch pads, along with supporting facilities for propellant production, power generation, deep-water shipping, vehicle processing, and an airport, aiming to create a self-sustaining spaceport. Construction is planned to start in 2027, with the first launch targeted for 2029. Governor Jeff Landry called it a transformative moment.

Gwynne Shotwell stated that the state government estimates at least 3,000 long-term jobs, and based on Texas Starship base experience, believes it could be closer to 10,000; Musk also mentioned around 10,000 jobs, the largest launch site on Earth, and over 30 launches per day in his video. The company also stated it will collaborate with state and federal agencies to advance coastal protection and mitigate shoreline erosion. The acquisition of methane propellant and the Gulf Coast shoreline were cited as reasons for the site selection.

Musk has used the same phrase for years: SpaceX's goal is to extend consciousness to the stars; multi-planetary existence can increase the probability of consciousness survival; at Davos, he told Larry Fink that the aim is to maximize the future of civilization and take consciousness off Earth, discussing solar-powered AI satellites. This time, "it" is designated as this $100 billion ground project, rather than just a standalone philosophical slogan.

In market mechanisms, the buyer is the theme capital writing the launch site as civilizational infrastructure with the state government for investment attraction, while the seller is SpaceX, which needs a second high-frequency Starship port to absorb capacity. The event was triggered by ARK placing the project in a historical engineering ranking. Funds from public offerings and state incentives will flow into concrete, methane, and launch pads.
