SpaceXAI to be Renamed SpaceXSI

Elon Musk posted on Sunday that he will no longer use AI, stating that the term "super intelligence" is better, and confirmed that SpaceXAI will be renamed to SpaceXSI.

When asked by a user if the company would change to SpaceXSI, he replied that this change would be made and further posted that SpaceX is a super intelligence company. As of Sunday morning, the company's website and social media accounts still displayed SpaceXAI. He did not provide a formal timeline for the name change, nor did he clarify whether trademarks, contracts, and product names would be changed simultaneously. Reuters contacted SpaceXAI, but did not receive an immediate response.

The renaming comes after President Donald Trump pushed to replace the term artificial intelligence with super intelligence. An executive order issued on September 29 requires federal agencies to use "Super Intelligence" and "SI" in official documents, public communications, websites, reports, and policy papers, discontinuing the use of "Artificial Intelligence" and "AI." Existing regulations, presidential actions, contracts, grants, and historical documents do not need to be retroactively amended.

The executive order temporarily defines super intelligence as the artificial intelligence technologies and systems covered under Section 9401(3) of Title 15 of the U.S. Code. The President's Assistant for Science and Technology has been tasked with proposing a federal definition and assessing whether additional executive actions are needed. Last month, Trump stated at the United Nations General Assembly that U.S. documents would now use the more accurate term "super" and expressed hope that the world would follow suit.

About twenty tech company leaders attended a White House luncheon on September 29, where a voluntary super intelligence agreement was announced. Musk sat on one side of the President, with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang on the other. A White House briefing stated that the federal government has announced over $5 billion for the Genesis Mission to apply super intelligence in science, medicine, energy, and manufacturing.

There were no equity transactions involved. The buyer is the federal document terminology, while the seller is the company brand. The event was driven by the executive order changing AI to SI. No funds moved in or out of SpaceXAI. The beneficiaries are companies willing to align their names with government terminology, while the pressured parties are those contracts, regulations, and historical documents that still need to retain the term AI.

Musk did not clarify whether SpaceXSI would be an independent legal entity, nor did he disclose the costs associated with the name change.

Musk directly referred to SpaceXAI as SpaceXSI on Sunday. His original statement was that he would no longer use AI, that super intelligence is better, and that SpaceX is a super intelligence company. At the same time, the website and accounts had not changed, and Reuters did not receive a response from the company. The name first appeared in the post, not in business registration.

The executive order was dated September 29 and is limited to non-statutory documents of federal agencies. The code definition still points to existing artificial intelligence provisions, and signed contracts do not need to be amended. On the same day, the White House held a luncheon, with Musk sitting next to the President; the agreement is a voluntary joint commitment, not a penalty rule. The Genesis Mission was described in a briefing as a federal project exceeding $5 billion, with the name alignment occurring after this budget was announced.

A comparable situation is the Department of Energy changing the title of high-performance computing projects to artificial intelligence after 2017, and in 2023 various companies unified their labs to be called AI departments to align with subsidy directories. SpaceX is not in a technological transition phase but rather in a terminology alignment phase. The rocket and satellite business did not change products in this post.

The essence is regulatory change. The government first changes the terminology in official documents, and the company then changes its external name, while the statutory definitions remain unchanged. The mechanism is that procurement, grants, and public communications will all scan for SI, and the old name AI will lose its official position in new documents. The post confirmed the name change, while registration and contracts still use SpaceXAI.

  1. Official documents change terminology first, then companies change names.
  2. Statutory definitions remain unchanged, external references change first.
  3. The voluntary agreement changes the rhetoric, not the products.
