Vlad Tenev, CEO and co-founder of Robinhood, stated in an interview on The Iced Coffee Hour that he is focused on the percentage of U.S. households that own stocks: currently about 65%, up from just over 50% before Robinhood's emergence. He believes the company has made a "substantial contribution" to this increase, and the next goal is to achieve over 95%.

He described the world of minority ownership as inherently fragile and advocated for spreading ownership beyond just stocks. He identified three tools for achieving this: Trump Accounts, private markets, and tokenization. He suggested that every child born in the U.S. should receive a $1,000 deposit from the Treasury into an account, which he termed "default ownership"; employer 401(k) matching has previously raised stock ownership rates by several percentage points, and similar mandatory or default mechanisms are more effective than educational slogans.

Tokenization is seen as a pathway for the world to catch up with the U.S.: turning U.S. stocks and other physical assets into globally distributable tokens, allowing more people to share in the appreciation of U.S. assets. Robinhood Chain has launched stock tokens outside the U.S., covering over 120 countries and regions; he complained that this innovation serves foreigners first, while Americans are left behind, and stated that the liquidity and access of private companies represent sharper scenarios for tokenization, with AI and companies like SpaceX creating value that often excludes ordinary investors.

On the product side, they are simultaneously rolling out agent accounts: over 100,000 people have opened Agentic accounts, starting with stocks and then expanding to options and crypto, using automated portfolios instead of conducting their own research. He referred to the prediction market as part of a super cycle. In July, he noted that "only 62% of Americans have access to U.S. stocks, aiming for 100%"; a Gallup survey in 2026 showed that about 58% own stocks directly or through retirement accounts, lower than the 65% he verbally cited, indicating a lack of consistency in metrics.

In market mechanics, the goal is to convert households without accounts into tradable users, while selling the surplus cash outside of wage accounts. Funds are flowing from savings and consumption into zero-commission brokerage, tokenization, and prediction contracts. The beneficiaries are Robinhood's account numbers, order flow, and on-chain transaction volume; the pressured parties are traditional brokers and retirement plan custodians, as well as regulators who still block U.S. stock tokens domestically. He acknowledged that "most people simply do not have enough money," thus relying on default account openings rather than financial education.

Additionally: stock tokens are still not equivalently open within the U.S., and he called for regulators to accelerate this process, or else there will be a result of "the world building the future around U.S. assets while Americans themselves are absent." The on-chain trading volume of stock tokens was previously reported by official channels to be around $1.5 billion.
