Midjourney Enters Medical Imaging, Launches Midjourney Medical and Spa in San Francisco

Midjourney announced the launch of Midjourney Medical, planning to develop full-body ultrasound CT imaging devices and open its first Spa in downtown San Francisco by 2027.

The core device, Midjourney Scanner, allows users to enter a shallow golden light pool, with the body descending through an underwater sensor ring, using ultrasound to scan and generate internal images from multiple angles, with the scanning process taking about 60 seconds.

The AI image generation company is expanding into the medical imaging and high-end health checkup sectors, aiming to deploy tens of thousands of scanners for large-scale preventive health monitoring.

Midjourney previously focused on text-to-image generation and rapidly iterated products through community-driven efforts. This hardware transformation relies on its AI imaging expertise and collaboration with Butterfly Network's ultrasound chips. Founder David Holz is driving the extension from virtual content to physical health scanning, reflecting the company's diversification strategy.

In terms of capital, Midjourney is leveraging its annual revenue scale to invest in hardware development and Spa experience scenarios, focusing resources on ultrasound-on-chip technology and user data collection. The motivation is to apply AI visual capabilities to real human imaging, creating a new consumer-oriented preventive healthcare entry point and accumulating a large-scale scanning dataset.

Similar to OpenAI and other AI companies exploring hardware/medical applications, generative AI enterprises are currently in a crossover phase from digital content to physical health services. Midjourney's move seizes the opportunity in the high-end health checkup and wellness market.

Essentially, this represents a technological replacement and industrial chain reconstruction, with the mechanism being the combination of ultrasound and AI reconstruction breaking through traditional MRI/CT radiation and time limitations, lowering barriers and reshaping medical imaging pricing power and data flow, promoting the shift of preventive medicine from hospitals to consumer Spa scenarios.
